May Allure Box Unboxing and Mini Review

It’s that time of the month again!

I have been anxiously awaiting this month’s Allure Beauty Box, and for the most part, it did not disappoint!

Let’s get right into this May’s box…

St. Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Mousse

IMG_2532

Price: $42

Where to buy: St. TropezUlta, Nordstrom, and Sephora

Description: “A gentle, clean and freshly scented water mousse that easily absorbs into skin, leaving a light gleam to guide your application.”

My Initial Thoughts: I really like this! This was a product that I have been dying to try, so I was really pleased it was in the box. I am super pale, so I am always slightly leary of self-tanners. This went on easy, dried quick, and didn’t make me streaky or orange so I would call it a success!

My Recommendation: If you are looking for a natural subtle (read: light) bronzy sunkissed tan, I would definitely give this a go! If you have medium to deeper skin tone, you might want to spend the money on a darker tanning product. Like a lot of other people, the fact that it is clear is both a good and bad- it definitely won’t mess up your clothes/sheets, but you need to make sure you blend and cover all your skin well!

First Aid Beauty Coconut Priming Moisturizer

Price: $28

Where to buy: First Aid Beauty and Sephora

Description: “Formulated with Coconut Water and other superfood ingredients, this natural, complexion-enhancing moisturizer instantly brightens, hydrates and smooths in one simple step, while helping blur the appearance of pores and imperfections.”

My Initial Thoughts: I was super excited to get this in the box. I am a big fan of FAB, and have been using this off and on for a while now!

My Recommendation: I love this, and definitely recommend it if you are looking for a dewy/glowy priming moisturizer. It definitely leaves a beautiful luminous glow to the skin and is great under makeup. If you are having a good skin no-makeup day, you could honestly just wear it alone!

Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks

IMG_2513

Price: $25 for 6 under-eye masks

Where to buy: Wander Beauty, and Sephora

Description: “Individually packaged gold foil eye masks to brighten, hydrate and reduce the appearance of dark circles.”

My Initial Thoughts: I’m always a huge fan of eye masks, and love getting them in monthly box subscriptions! These are nice because they are really thin and foil-like (hence the name, I guess) and stick really well under your eyes. I was also pumped that they sent us 2 packs in this box which seems really generous!

My Recommendation: It might be a placebo effect, but my eyes definitely appeared more plump and moisturized after wearing these! I liked that they were thinner than most “normal” undereye masks which tend to sometimes slip down my face. Will I spend $25 on a pack….debatable, I use eye masks so often I am generally buying the cheaper packs from TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Will I save this second pack for a special event cause they made me feel great? YEP!

Kenra Dry Oil Control Spray

IMG_2546

Price: $19

Where to buy: Kenra, and Ulta

Description: “Lightweight touchable spray combines an oil’s nourishment with the styling ease of a medium hold hairspray.”

My Initial Thoughts: I have used a lot of Kenra products in the past and really enjoyed them, so I was excited to try something new! It has been a particularly hot and humid week here in Texas, so it might not have been the fairest “test” for this, but it did not keep the curl in my hair for very long the night I tried this out.

My Recommendation: It smelled nice, and didn’t leave my hair crunchy by any means. However, I have some strong hair and I need more of a hold. I think in the future I will use this more as a “finishing” hairspray to hold down flyaways, etc., but definitely not to keep a style in place. If you like a light hold hairspray, give it a shot!

CLE Lip Powder in Desert Rose

IMG_2521

Price: $20

Where to buy: CLE Cosmetics, and Anthropologie

Description: “Melting Lip Powder is an innovative new lip product that transforms as you wear it. From powder to a long-wearing tint that provides you a true matte finish.”

My Initial Thoughts: I haven’t had the chance to try any of the powder lipsticks that have been coming out recently, so I was excited to give this a go! As soon as I opened the box and saw it, I immediately opened it and put it on (MISTAKE) and somehow got the powder all over my shirt, hands, dog, whole life, etc.

My Recommendation: Meeehhhhhh… I hate to outright say “no” to a product, but this just didn’t work very well for me. It’s MESSY. (Or maybe I am just messy) It doesn’t build up well, smudges everywhere, and got all over my teeth/mouth. Once I was able to get it haphazardly on my lips and blended out, it did leave a gorgeous stain but it did feel somewhat drying. I have not had a chance to try this on my cheeks as a blush, so maybe I will like it more that way! Its a shame, because I really love this brand and swear by their Moonlighter Cushion Highlight, but this lip powder just didn’t work out for me.

L’Oréal Elnett Satin Hairspray

IMG_2551

Price: $12.59-$14.99

Where to buy: L’Oréal, Amazon, and most drugstores

Description: “Long-lasting brushable hold. Disappears at the stroke of a brush. Humidity Resistant Hairspray.”

My Initial Thoughts: I have used Elnett in the past and liked it, so I was happy to have another small travel size hairspray for the road. Its a good all-around workhorse of a hairspray with really great hold for even my tough hair.

My Recommendation: Its a classic for a reason! I feel like most people have tried this and it just works really well! If you are looking for a go-to, staple no-frills type of hairspray than you should definitely give this a try!

What did you all think of May’s box and Allure Beauty Box in general? I personally think its super underrated, and don’t know why more people don’t talk about it! As always, thanks for reading, and I will report back on June’s box!
