I have a confession. I am becoming somewhat obsessed with beauty boxes. There’s just something about getting mail, especially mail with beautiful makeup and skincare that can make just about any day better. So, being an avid fan of all-things beauty boxes, on a whim I recently signed up for the Allure Beauty Box.
When I started doing some digging and debating if I was going to subscribe or not, the biggest surprise was some of the high-end and luxury items that they feature in their boxes. If you don’t like to see spoilers of what you are going to get, this may not be the box for you! You are able to see online what items are going to be featured in boxes, and it was the quantity of the luxury items is what eventually sold me and lead me to subscribe. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting cool and relatively unknown indie brands that I have never tried with some of the other boxes on the market, but not this one! The subscription is $15 per month, which is the world of beauty boxes seems to be in the mid-range.
Now without further ado, here is what was included in my first box!
The June box had six items all of which were travel/deluxe sample sizes. Going in I know that was the case, but since I travel so much, this is perfect for me! There is no better way to see if you like a product and don’t have to have the commitment issues of buying a whole product to try something out.
One thing that stood out to me about the box itself is that it was really well packaged, had no damage from shipping, and looked great. It also included a handy little booklet that detailed out all of the products, included pricing, where to buy, and had some exclusive promo codes for subscribers! This is a great touch, and I think it really makes all the difference with some of the beauty boxes that are on the market at comparable prices that don’t include pricing and product information.
Now, for a deep-dive into each product:
Description: “An illuminating primer that blurs imperfections and boosts the radiance of foundation.”
My Initial Thoughts: This is definitely the item I am the most excited to try. I have been having a lot of primer strife lately, and haven’t found that one magical life-changing one yet. I am hopeful this is it! When I tried it on the back of my hand it had a gorgeous, silky texture that I think will make your foundation look flawless (crossing fingers here!) and did actually blur the look of my skin a little!
I wore it the next day (and on a first date I might add… big gamble here!) and I loved it! It really makes your skin feel incredibly soft and blurs the overall tone of your face. It does have a little bit of a floral fragrance initially when you put it on your face, but it goes away immediately. I haven’t noticed a huge difference in the longevity of wear time more than other primers, but overall, I would say it’s a win!
My Recommendation: Since this is a luxury item with a heftier price tag, I am hesitant to tell you to run out and buy it this second. You can order a deluxe sample size on Amazon if you are interested in trying it without committing to the full sized bottle. I think it is definitely one of the better primers that I have tried, and I really do like the way my makeup has been sitting on my face while using it! This has been the only primer that I have been using since I have received the box if that’s saying anything!
Where to buy: Deco Miami Website
Description: It’s a Vegan, Cruelty-Free, 8-Free, TPHP-Free nail polish.
My Initial Thoughts: I had never heard or seen this brand before, and I was instantly in love with the cute packaging. The nail polish itself is a great color, and perfect for the summer. They also have a ton of fabulous colors online…all with really fun names (hello Nip Slip, and #slay!)
I immediately applied this after tearing through the box and was obsessed with the color. The only disappointing part was that the formula seemed really thick and a little chunky. I am not sure if maybe I just got an older bottle, or it wasn’t sealed right, but it did make the application not as smooth as I would have liked. It wore really well (I did add a top coat like I normally would) and didn’t chip for a few days, so that was great. The color was extremely vibrant, and a beautiful shade.
My Recommendation: I’m a little bummed about the formula (possibly) but I would definitely try the brand again. They have such amazing colors, and the fun names are a great bonus as well! I would definitely try one more out to see if my bottle was a fluke, or if that’s just the formulation.
Description: “Quick drying, shine boosting formula with a targeted application delivers intense hold to support even the hardest to hold styles all day. Blocks humidity for up to 24 hours, infused with keratin.”
My Initial Thoughts: I put this guy to the test on a blisteringly hot and humid Texas day… and you know what, it did pretty good! Since it is a medium hold, I wasn’t expecting miracles, and my hair did not stay curled all night, but it definitely was not crunchy or immediately limp. You can still run your hands through your hair, and it’s very manageable. It does have somewhat of an intense fragrance right out of the can, but it dissipates very soon afterward and doesn’t linger in your hair.
My Recommendation: If you like light-to-medium hold hairsprays, this is a good one to try! If you are like me and want to completely shellack your hair, I would stick with a higher-hold alternative,
Description: “This award-winning beta-hydroxy mask works like a traditional peel to provide an instant solution for dull skin – without causing downtime or irritation. Delivers instant glow, helps minimize the appearance of pores and improves texture for smooth, radiant skin.”
My Initial Thoughts: This is a brand that I have been wanting to test out, so I was very excited to get this in the June box! I used it the night that I got it, and loved the way it made my skin feel! You put a thick layer on your face and leave on for 15-30 minutes, and it dries down to a clear film on your face, and when you wash it off it leaves your skin extremely soft. The next morning my skin was still super soft and looked smoother/plumper.
My Recommendation: I will definitely keep trying this out and let you know if anything truly dramatic changes! It made my skin feel amazing, so I think I will definitely continue to use it, and possibly buy it when I run through this smaller jar.
Description: “Reduce the appearance of wrinkles with this ultra-light gel serum. Power packed with an optimum dose of our proprietary blend of fruit stem cells infused into a Vitamin C, resveratrol-rich grapeseed formula to help boost and enhance skin tone and texture.”
My Initial Thoughts: This serum went on my skin very lightly, didn’t feel heavy or pore-clogging in any way. I didn’t have any issues with it on my skin as far as sensitivity/redness/etc goes, and overall felt really good!
My Recommendation: With skincare, I think it’s too early to tell, but I will definitely report back after I try this product out for a little while longer!
Description: “A revolutionary facial sheet mask infused with a hydrating tanning serum to nourish skin while providing a radiant, dewy glow. ”
My Initial Thoughts: I am pretty pale, so this guy scared me a little bit. I had some visions of looking like Magda from There’s Something About Mary” which isn’t the look I am usually going for. I do like to use sunless tanner, but I generally buy the gradual, slow and steady kind in the lightest shade possible.
My Recommendation: I haven’t had the chance to try it yet, but I will do a separate review specifically for this, so check back!
That’s it! I hope you all enjoyed this review, and that it helps you out if you are considering adding any of these products to your routine! Let me know your thoughts on the Allure Beauty box if you’re a subscriber as well… so far I am impressed!
